The world's best cyclists arrive in Yorkshire again

22-04-2016

As the fastest men on two wheels ride into our area again, we want to make sure that you get to the best places to enjoy them whizz past. We've changed some of our timetables to accommodate the road closures and on the day we'll do our best to return the buses to the normal timetable once the race has passed through.

On Friday 29 the race will affect some of our routes;

770 – Wetherby & Boston Spa

The route -

Between 13.30 and 14.30 there are road closures in Wetherby and Boston Spa. The 770 will take a different route between Wetherby and Moor End, along A661 and then Boston Road, before reaching Clifford Moor Road on the A659. We won't be able to go to Boston Spa at this time.

The journeys affected -

770 at 13.05 and the 771 at 13.40 from Harrogate. In the other direction, the 770 from Leeds at 12.50 will also take this route.

The best places to watch –

There will be a real buzz of people watching in Wetherby so make sure you get the early for a good spot, the 770 runs every 30 minutes between Leeds and Harrogate.

The 1 - Knaresborough

The route -

From 13.30 we will not be able to use Knaresborough High Street or the Bus Station. These roads reopen at 15.00.

The journeys affected -

We've created a separate timetable for the 1 that starts at 13.30. Preview the timetable here.

The best places to watch –

We have buses every 7-8 minutes into Knaresborough and there will be a lot of people there after the Tour de France came through the town in 2014. The famous red spotty house is still there and with this year's route heading past it, memories of 2014 will come flooding back to those who were there.

36 – Ripley

The route -

The tour will pass through Ripley between 14.10 and 15.00, so some journeys won't be able to complete the whole route.

The journeys affect –

We've created a separate timetable for the 36 that will be place in the afternoon, take a look at the timetable here.

The best places to watch –

The people in Ripley haven't yet had the Tour de Yorkshire come through their town, so the people there will be ready to give the race a warm welcome.

24 – Summerbridge and Pateley Bridge

The route –

The Tour will head on through Summerbridge and Pateley Bridge from 14.15 until 15.15.

The journeys affected –

The only journey that will have to stop short of completing the whole route is the 14.30 departure from Harrogate that will only go as far as Clint Bank.

The best places to watch –

The hills around Pateley Bridge will mean you can grab a glimpse of the riders struggle up the steepest climbs.

On Saturday 30 the race will affect some of our routes too;

770 - Thorner

The route –

The route will pass through Thorner and could cause delays between 08.45 and 09.15, and then again between 14.45 and 15.15.

The journeys affected –

There will no timetable or route changes but there is likely to be significant congestion before and after these times.

36 – Harewood Bank

The route –

The riders will tackling Harewood Bank between 08.20 and 09.00 and then again at 14.20 and 15.00.

The journeys affected –

We've created a separated timetable on the 36 for this day to try to limit the disruption as much as possible. Take a look here.

The best places to watch –

Harewood Bank is long but isn't too steep for the competitors, but you should get a good sight of them climbing into Harewood on the roadside.
