Le Tour de Yorkshire is coming to town

23-04-2019

The Tour de Yorkshire takes place over the weekend of 2-5 May. It's sure to be another fantastic cycling spectacle, with thousands of people expected to gather to cheer on the riders.

Some of the best viewing points for the event are easiest to get to by bus, and with car parking spaces expected to be few and far between, there's no better way to see the cycling!

Here's an outline of what's happening over the Tour de Yorkshire weekend.

Friday 3 May

Stage 2: Barnsley to Harrogate, Ripon and Bedale

The second stage of the race runs through Leeds, Harrogate and Ripon, through our stunning hillside and passing close to some of our bus routes.

This stage of the race will have an impact our buses on the 36, Harrogate Electrics, 7 and 24. Here's what we're expecting to happen through the day:

3 Harrogate – Jennyfield
West Park in Harrogate will be closed, so the 3 will be taking a different route in and out of the town centre. From around 9.30am until 5pm, we won't be able to stop at Victoria Avenue, the War Memorial, Royal Hall, Ripon Road or Bramham Drive.

If you normally get on or off at any of these stops, you'll be able to catch the 3 at The Hydro, or from Harrogate bus station instead.

6 Harrogate – Pannal Ash
As West Park will be closed, the 6 won't be able to stop at Victoria Avenue, Montpellier Hill, along Otley Road or on Larkfield Way.

X6 Harrogate - Beckwith Knowle
Otley Road will be closed during the afternoon, so some of our X6 buses won't be able to get to or from Beckwith Knowle. The 1610 and 1640 buses from Beckwith Knowle won't be running - the 1710 and 1740 will be running as normal, but may be slightly delayed whilst the road is reopened after the race.

If you normally catch the 1610 or 1640 from Beckwith Knowle, you'll be able to catch the 6 from Beckwith Road instead, by the junction with Beckwith Avenue.

7 Harrogate – Leeds
Some of our buses on the 7 will be affected by road closures through Whinmoor and Seacroft.

From Harrogate, the 0910 and 1440 won't be able to run all the way through to Leeds, and will finish at the War Memorial in Bramham.

From Leeds, the 0955 and 1525 will only run as far as Seacroft. The 1055 and 1635 from Leeds bus station will start instead from Seacroft, at 1115 and 1711.

24 Harrogate – Pateley Bridge
Some of our trips will be running at different times to avoid road closures in and around Killinghall.

The 1000 from Harrogate will take a different route out of Harrogate, running along King's Road and Skipton Road to New Park roundabout. This bus will only run as far as Clint Bank.

The 1130 will leave Harrogate 45 mins later, at 1215, also finishing at Clint Bank.

The 1100, 1230 and 1600 won't be able to run from Pateley Bridge - these buses will all start from Clint Bank instead, at 1035, 1255 and 1555 (this bus won't be able to stop on Penny Pot Lane due to the road closures).

36 Leeds - Harrogate - Ripon
Ripon Market Place will be closed for the whole day, and the 36 will also be affected by road closures in Alwoodley, Harrogate, Killinghall and Ripley.

Between 10am and 12pm, and 2.30pm and 5.30pm, we won't be able to stop at Tewit Well Avenue, St Mark's Church, Victoria Avenue, at the Prince of Wales roundabout, the War Memorial, Royal Hall or Ripon Road in Harrogate.
